Why DAR?

The DAR, founded in 1890, and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children. To accomplish this mission, DAR members volunteer more than 60,000 hours annually to veteran patients, award over $150,000 in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and support schools for the underprivileged with annual donations exceeding one million dollars.

DAR has over 180,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and internationally. Any woman 18 years or older-regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership.

DAR in Kansas

Kansas DAR is comprised of a group of active women, from all walks of life, who cherish their heritage and enthusiastically support the mission of DAR through state, chapter, and individual activities.

The Metzger Administration theme is “Welcome Home” and reflects the desire to recognize outstanding and dedicated service in the areas of Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism.

The Salute to Service symbol reflects gifts from God - heavenly stars, earthly jewels, and treasures from the sea -united and working beautifully together. This, therefore, represents the many facets of DAR and gifts of DAR members that work beautifully together.

The Administration Scripture is 1st Peter 4:10 - “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

If you ever have the opportunity to visit DAR Headquarters in Washington, DC, be sure and visit the beautiful Kansas Chapel, located in the Administration Building of NSDAR Headquarters at 1776 D Street, N.W.
