Samuel Linscott Chapter organized on January 28, 1909, in Holton, Kansas. The chapter's first regent was Minnie B. Linscott. With sixty-two charter members, the chapter has the distinction of having formed with the largest number of members of any Kansas chapter. Twenty-three of these original members were descendants of Samuel Linscott, after whom the chapter is named.

Samuel Linscott had four recorded enlistments in the Revolutionary War. The first was at Harpswell, Maine, May 15, 1775. Details are not recorded for the next two enlistments, but the fourth was September 16, 1781, as a private in Captain John Evans' Company at the Androscoggin River, guarding the frontier.

The chapter has always been involved in DAR programs and interested in historical preservation and its community. In 1982, the chapter presented the DAR Medal of Honor to a local man, cited especially for his dedicated service to the Holton VFW and American Legion Posts, where he served as graves registrar for many years. The chapter has marked the graves of a Real Daughter and a Real Son of Revolutionary patriots. In 1985, the grave of Maria Bradley Niles, daughter of Coast Guardsman James Bradley, was marked; in 1990, the grave of William Thornton Scott was marked. Scott was the son of a Revolutionary soldier, and also the father of the first State Regent of Kansas, Martha Scott Hand, who served in that office from 1894 to 1899.

America's veterans have always been of great importance to the chapter. One chapter member served for seventeen years as NSDAR Deputy Representative to the VAVS Advisory Board, at the VA Medical Center in Topeka. She was awarded an Outstanding Service award from VAVS for her dedication to veterans. To learn more about this unique DAR/VA panel, visit the NSDAR website.
