The Sagamore Chapter has grown during the years since its formation in 1965. The chapter's roots are built on the love of God and country upon which is our nation’s foundation. Members work together to perpetuate DAR ideals in the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence.
Within the Sagamore Chapter, women from all walks of life enjoy working together to carry on the DAR traditions set forth over a century ago. Members share common goals and actively find fulfillment contributing to preserving the American spirit and building a stronger America. They actively embrace historic preservation, patriotic endeavors, and promotion of education through annual activities such as:
- Celebrating Constitution Week with a display at local libraries and schools
- Collecting food labels and other donations for the support of DAR Schools, homeless shelters, and military personnel
- Honoring local citizens for community service
- Honoring outstanding high schools seniors with DAR Good Citizens Awards
- Hosting Bingo parties for veterans
- Joining in 911 Memorial activities
- Participating in Wreaths Across America
- Ringing Salvation Army bells at Christmas
- Selecting chapter essay winners from children in grades 5-8 for the DAR American History Essay Contest
- Supporting and involvement in national defense, Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.), and literacy promotion
- Supporting military service personnel at home and overseas
- Volunteering and support in community activities
- Welcoming new citizens at naturalization ceremonies
Sagamore Chapter meets September through May on the first Thursday evening of the month to allow many working women to participate in the activities. Monthly meetings are enriched with an opening devotion, Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, The American’s Creed, and the Star-Spangled Banner. The program presented each month includes topics such as women’s issues, American history, education, support of military, and service to the community. Through active involvement, lasting friendships are made and enjoyed by group of caring women.
