Governor Bradford's comments on the Hopkins family

The name of our chapter honors Oceanus Hopkins, son of Stephen Hopkins and his second wife, Elizabeth (Fisher) Hopkins, passengers on the Mayflower. Their child, Oceanus, was born over the Atlantic Ocean, between mid-September and mid-November 1620, and is named for his birth on the ocean voyage. Although Oceanus died when he was still a very young child, his birth is symbolic of the spirit of our forefathers coming to build a new land.
