Preservation * Patriotism * Education

Newton Chapter was formed in the city of Newton, Kansas, on April 9, 1904. Both our city and chapter are named for the city of Newton, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston, where many of the stockholders of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad lived.

Our chapter has faithfully served our community, our DAR Society, and the nation for nearly a century. Our work has been varied over the years. During World War I, we aided in canteen work, knitting, and making surgical dressings. More recently, we have given financial aid to DAR-assisted schools and scholarships, as well as promoted the DAR essay contests among local youth.

State Regent Visits The Newton Chapter placed a marker at Newton's first well in 1909 and later placed bronze markers on the graves of a Revolutionary soldier's widow, Mrs. John (Rebecca) Burch, and their daughter, Elizabeth, near Halstead, Kansas.

A highlight in the chapter's year is the State Regent's visit. Here, chapter members pose with the State Regent, state organizing secretary, and members of the Uvedale Chapter, who co-hosted the event.

Regular monthly meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month, at 10:00 a.m., from September through May. Prospective members are welcome to attend. Please contact us for more information, using the link below.
