It was 1939 when a number of women in the St. John area decided to organize a DAR chapter. After several months of hard work, Kanza Chapter was confirmed on February 1, 1940. The name was chosen from the Indian word for the Kansas River, Kanza, meaning "swift." Visit our city's website, and see where we live!

The chapter is very interested in our youth, and traditionally gives the chapter's Good Citizen winner a U.S. savings bond. "Stars of Freedom" were given to county school students.

We fully support our own Kansas DAR Library, and have donated fifteen books in recent years to its fine genealogical and historical collection.

The chapter presents pamphlets, bookmarks, and posters to the three Stafford County schools to recognize Constitution Week each year. Area schools participate in the DAR Good Citizen contest and the American History Essay contest.

Chapter meetings are held at 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the months of September through May. Prospective members are invited to attend. Contact us for more information using the link below.
