GOOD-LAND CHAPTER

Goodland, Kansas

Divider

Good-Land Chapter received its official charter December 2, 1959. The chapter began with sixteen charter members and Mrs. Hazel Reed served as the Organizing Regent. Mrs. Reed was affiliated with the Phebe Dustin Chapter in Phillipsburg, and was asked by the State Regent to form a new chapter in Goodland, Kansas. The chapter is named "Good-Land" because of the excellent area farmlands.

Several of our members helped to publish their area history book called "Wallace County History: A Story of Grass, Grit and Chips," published in 1979. Sales of the book helped to form the Wallace County Historical Society.

The chapter has many ongoing projects. One is purchasing books on American History for local libraries in Goodland, St. Francis and Sharon Springs. Another is giving United State Flags which were flown over the Capital to area schools along with flag code books and information on respecting the flag. We also care for a DAR Veterans Monument in the Goodland Cemetery and place wreaths and flags there each Memorial Day in honor of Veterans and deceased DAR members. The chapter recently planted roses in the cemetery to highlight the DAR Historical Marker located there.

Chapter meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of July, October, November, December, April, and May. Prospective members are welcome to attend. Please contact us for more information about DAR and our chapter, using the link below.
