Our Year in Brief



SEPTEMBER: Our regular meeting featured a program on the Continental Congress, the annual national meeting of DAR. Later in the month, our chapter was proud to hostess a tea for new American citizens following their naturalization ceremony. OCTOBER: Our meeting in October featured a program on the Santa Fe Trail. The weather prevented a tour of the Douglas County Santa Fe Trail markers.

DECEMBER: At our meeting in December, we learned about the memorial statue of Chief Paschal Fish and the 150th Anniversary of Eudora. Shari Johnson also shared her experience at the NSDAR Genealogy Workshop.

JANUARY: We had a delicious program about chocolate, given by Carol Hester of Riverfront Chocolates.



FEBRUARY: Sometimes even DAR is cancelled. This month, the weather interfered and we had no meeting.



MARCH: In this busy month, chapter members attended the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Shown on the left is Gerry Livers, waving at the downtown crowd in Lawrence. On the right are members of the chapter attending the state conference. It was an exciting meeting, because the President General attended.



APRIL: Our chapter took a "white glove tour" of the Dole Institute of Politics. MAY: At our meeting we honored our fifth grade winner of the American History Contest (left). Dr. Gail Beale of the Department of Veterans Affairs presented a program on the National Veterans' History Project (right).



Members joined with Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps representative in presenting an ROTC medal to Katrina Hansen (left).Later in May, Wilma Baruth presented an ROTC medal to Michelle Davis (right).

JUNE Three members attended the national annual meeting of NSDAR, Continental Congress, June 27-July 1.



JULY: The chapter presented a plaque recognizing the contributions of former memer, Fay Talley, to the DAR Service to Veterans Committee of DAR. Mrs. Tally, who served on the committee for many years, recently passed away. Jerome Hanson, commander of the American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14, received the plaque.




Later in the month, a picnic was held in the home of one of our members, and all of us had a great time!
